PROJECT EXPERIENCE
Multi-Facility Environmental Program Management
Corporate Due Diligence Program, Sears, Roebuck and Co. – Program Manager. Initiated the first program with Sears real estate group to provide consistency for environmental review at properties that the corporation was interested in purchasing or leasing. Developed a hybrid scope of work which included the ASTM standard and additional investigation to meet Sears’ goals. Personally reviewed each Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessment and provided recommendations to the real estate department about engaging in any transaction with the property owner based on the extent of liability. Rendered opinion whether a credit could be gained from the property owner to offset the cost of remedial action.
National Asbestos Abatement and Management Program, Sears, Roebuck and Co. – Program Manager. Developed policy and procedures for management of asbestos containing materials (ACM) at more than 2,000 facilities during remodeling, construction, demolition, and major maintenance activities. The scope of management included procuring and contracting with consultants and contractors for abatement or preventative maintenance activities. A major component of this project was the management, coordination and negotiation with regulators for the completion of more than 1,000 projects.
Hazardous Material Shipping Programs, Sears, Roebuck and Co. – Manager, Hazardous Materials and Safety. Developed and implemented four independent function-specific hazardous material shipping manuals, training, and tracking programs to achieve compliance with the Department of Transportations (DOT) Hazardous Materials Rule for Sears full-line stores, product service centers, logistics services centers, and hardware stores. These training programs impacted more than 50,000 employees nationwide. These programs were not shelf bought—they were custom written to reflect both the statutory requirements and the function specific activities that occurred within each of the Sears businesses. National Automotive In-Ground Lift Removal Program, Sears, Roebuck and Co. – Program Manager. Developed and managed Sears Lift Removal Program. Responsible for procuring and contracting environmental consulting firms to remove in-ground automotive lift systems, sampling
to determine the extent of a release, and remediate impacted media. A key aspect of this program was the management, coordination, and negotiation with regulators for closure of more than 500 in-ground lift systems.
National Safety and Health Training Programs
Respiratory Protection Program and Training for High Speed Mail Processing Facilities Related to Potential Anthrax, Sears, Roebuck and Co. – Manager, Hazardous Materials and Safety. Researched, wrote, and developed respiratory protection program for high risk associates in Sears high speed mail processing plants, that included the distribution of appropriate personal protective equipment, such as gloves and respirators and special instructions for reacting to a potential Anthrax scare. A corporate Lotus Notes database was immediately developed to track incidents nationwide and a 24-hour call center was activated to report any incident. More than 400 incidents were reported and managed in a 45-day period.
Hardware Safety and Health Manual, Sears, Roebuck and Co. – Manager, Hazardous Materials and Safety. Wrote and implemented the Sears Hardware Safety and Health Manual that impacted approximately 300 facilities and 9,000 employees. This program was extremely complex in that it required a combination of Sears Hardware stores’ culture and behavior with that of Orchard Supply Hardware, which was earlier purchased by Sears.
